Top Quark Compositeness: Feasibility and Implications
نویسندگان
چکیده
In models of electroweak symmetry breaking in which the SM fermions get their masses by mixing with composite states, it is natural to expect the top quark to show properties of compositeness. We study the phenomenological viability of having a mostly composite top. The strongest constraints are shown to come from one-loop contributions to the T -parameter. Nevertheless, the presence of light custodial partners weakens these bounds, allowing in certain cases for a high degree of top compositeness. We find regions in the parameter space in which the T -parameter receives moderate positive contributions, favoring the electroweak fit of this type of models. We also study the implications of having a composite top at the LHC, focusing on the process pp→ tt̄tt̄(bb̄) whose cross-section is enhanced at high-energies. ar X iv :0 80 6. 32 47 v1 [ he pph ] 1 9 Ju n 20 08

Higgs Compositeness from Top Dynamics and Extra Dimensions
The fundamental Higgs doublet may be replaced in the Standard Model by certain nonperturbative four-quark interactions, whose e ect is to induce a composite Higgs sector responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking. A simple composite two-Higgs-doublet model is presented. The four-quark interactions arise naturally if there are either extra spatial dimensions or larger gauge symmetries at a mu...
متن کاملA Realistic Supersymmetric Model with Composite Quarks
We describe a realistic, renormalizable, supersymmetric “quindecuplet” model in which the top quark, left-handed bottom quark, and up-type Higgs boson are composite, with a compositeness scale∼ 1−3 TeV. The top-Higgs Yukawa coupling is a dynamically generated strong interaction effect, and is naturally much larger than any other Yukawa coupling. The light quark doublets and right-handed up-type...
متن کاملTop compositeness and precision unification.
The evolution of standard model gauge couplings is studied in a nonsupersymmetric scenario in which the hierarchy problem is resolved by Higgs compositeness above the weak scale. It is argued that massiveness of the top quark combined with precision tests of the bottom quark imply that the right-handed top must also be composite. If, further, the standard model gauge symmetry is embedded into a...
متن کاملFlavor, Compositeness, and Dynamical Breaking of Supersymmetry
We should be taking advantage of recent gains in our nonperturbative understanding of supersymmetric gauge theories to find the “standard” model of of dynamical supersymmetry breaking, and possibly of flavor as well. As an illustration of the possibilities for understanding the flavor hierarchy, I describe a realistic, renormalizable, supersymmetric model with a compositeness scale of ∼ 1−3 TeV...
متن کاملMass hierarchy from compositeness hierarchy in supersymmetric gauge theory
The possibility that the mass hierarchy is intimately associated with the compositeness level of the matters is proposed in supersymmetric gauge theory. This implies, for instance, that the preons constituting top quark consists of the “prepreons” binded by the same gauge force making the charm quark out of another preons. The exemplifying toy model illustrates how the hierarchy in the yukawa c...
